We are very excited about beginning our Green Flag Journey in Scoil Naomh Padraig, Drumfries! The theme to achieve the first flag is ‘Litter and Waste’. We are currently implementing ways to reduce the waste in our school and have formed a ‘Green Schools committee’ to accomplish this. Our committee is made up of 4th/5th and 6th classes and we have asked parents to come on board also.Together we are reviewing the way we dispose of litter and waste in the school.
6th/ Mar/14
We now have our committee up and running and it consists of 4th/5th/6th classes , parents and staff.
Our litter wardens have been appointed for the car park(Ethan, Cillian,James) and inside the school perimeter(Adam, Paul,Sean)..see photo below of our cark park wardens.
Litter is now being gathered, weighed and monitored daily
Thank you to Jacinta McCarron (parent) for acquiring high visibility vests and litterpickers for us.
We now have a dedicated noticeboard in the school which gives all the information on what we are achieving. We have Ellen, Siofra and Sarah looking after this.
We have joined up with WEEE Ireland to collect used batteries and have them recycled and we have registered to take part in a local Spring Clean…details to follow
Environmental reviews have been carried out and action plans are in place for the coming year…keeping checking here to see our progress!
The next committee meeting will be held in the school on 21st March@9.20am

The Green School’s Comittee meeting was held on Friday and from the meeting it was announced that ‘Spring Clean Day’ take place on 9th April 2014. We would encourage the whole community to get involved in this and any other initiatives in which they would like to participate.
This week the Senior Room will be going on a trip to the Recycling facility in Carndonagh to learn more about “Reduce,Re-use, Recycle’. They will receive a talk and get a tour of the facility to see how it works.

We have now received our Green Flag Certificate and our Green flag- we are absolutely delighted!
As with litter and waste, there are four stages to tackling energy:
1. Analyse the problem
2. Devise an action plan
3. Measuring success
4. Maintenance
We have now started working on this theme and will continue to do so over the coming months.

Our Green flag for Energy has been achieved and has now been raised by our hard working Green Schools Committee and the teacher Ms. Bradley!
